The Parent Trap

Image
Over Thanksgiving vacation, I watched and compared two movies--both versions of the movie The Parent Trap  (the 1961 version with Hayley Mills and the 1998 version with Lindsay Lohan).  Which one is better?  Was there a need to make a new one when the original was a classic to begin with?  Which do I prefer and recommend?                     The first thing I'll say is that the plot of both is identical--as identical as the twins in the story!  Some of the very lines are the exact same, word-for-word (not the whole movie, but many of the lines).  There are some variations, which I'll share later.  The synopsis is (with spoiler alerts), two girls who look exactly alike (only with different hairstyles and clothes) meet at summer camp.   1961 twins, Sharon and Susan at left; 1998 twins, Annie and Hallie at right      They discover that they are identical t...

Original Top Ten

It's UN-be-LIEV-able!  If you didn't follow, that's unbelievable, with the first and third syllables emphasized.  The reason?  Not sure.  I didn't originate it!  One of the central characters in today's topic movie did!        Did you ever have a favorite childhood movie?  You could just watch it over and over, without getting bored of it?  I have!  But one particular movie didn't impact me until I was an older kid.  It kind of struck a chord in me, and I thought maybe it was just me.  But over the years, I have shown this movie to numerous kids (young children, elementary, and even teenage summer missionaries), and all of them have adored it!  The movie in question?  The Kingdom Chums, Original Top Ten.   If you're familiar, you'll for sure enjoy this review, and may want to comment!  If you are not, keep reading anyway.  You might want to learn about this movie, in ...

Best and Worst TV Characters of All Time (in my opinion)

Image
I'm going to start this one with a disclaimer.  I have not watched every TV show ever made, nor have I even watched more than the average person.  I've probably watched less.  But from my perspective, these are some of the best and worst TV characters of all time!  I'll also note that by saying these characters are "best" or "worst" doesn't necessarily mean I like or dislike them.  It means that they were great characters, well-written and believable in that roll, as you will see with number one!  I'm going to alternate. BEST: Eddie Haskell, Leave it to Beaver      Who can forget the Cleaver's annoying neighbor boy from the 1950's sitcom, Leave it to Beaver ?  Dutiful parents Ward and June were always on edge when their sons' friend Eddie came over.  Smiling sweetly as he entered their house, he would say, "Mrs. Cleaver, that's a very pretty dress you have on," to which she would sigh, "Thank you, Eddie....

The most disturbing movie of all time!

Image
My husband and I recently had eye exams.  In the waiting room, a movie was playing on the television.  A movie that, for some, is an old friend, but for me, felt like an old enemy!  The movie in question?  The 1971 masterpiece Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  This movie is the adaptation of the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , by Roald Dahl.  A 2005 movie took the same name as the novel (with Charlie's name), instead of the title of the earlier film (which features Willy Wonka's name).  I'll briefly touch on the book and newer movie, but mainly, I'm going to talk about my old frenemy film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Fasten your seatbelt.  It's going to be a strange ride.        As a basic introduction, I will say that most of the adults in this movie belong in jail, or at least in the mental ward of some institution!      The story features the ador...
